WHAT ABOUT ME !! Don`t I matter?
Have you any idea how many people died in privately owned Seniors Nursing homes. 82% of Canada`s death from Covid 19 were in Long Term Care homes, a total of 3436 residents. It is no secret that because of the success of the medical profession many people are living longer and at the end of their lives because of the loss of wives and husbands and even caring children, have no alternative for life’s end to be residents in such homes. Why are there so many deaths? The answer is very simple. There are two many people in one room sometimes as many as four or five . In the middle of the night when many older people have to relieve themselves there could be 100 residents and maybe one or at the most two nurses for the entire building. I don’t know about you but I am 90 and I have to relieve myself at the least twice. Thank God, I still walk but many of these residents cannot and have to be helped. There is no way this can be accomplished with the staff there. But that is not the worst of it. Covid19 spreads by the air we breathe and so many people in one small size room , if one person with a visitor or a day staff visit has the illness the whole room will be infected in a few days. In Canada, it is the province with jurisdiction over all health matters . What laws govern the operation of these senior residences ? I do not believe there are any laws in this area. Seniors used to represent a small proportion of the worlds population. I read the obituaries, and I noticed how many people with a write-up on themselves are over 90 or 100. This is only going o get worse, or should I say better. People are living longer and the political figures in charge of senior health care are not taking this fact into consideration at all. There have to be detailed laws on how senior residents homes MUST be managed. So many residents MUST have so many staff people to care for them day and night. What entertainment programs are offered to the residents. Most give nothing. Seniors are there to have a reasonably happy end, not just to die. There is a price to pay for this extra service and the population living in the country we built, have to pay it, with Ontario government help
