UNLICENSED BARBER–MY WIFE

Many lives have been changed by Covid 19 and it has affected businesses all over the world. But to be honest the last part of human lives that I would have given any thought to is your neighborhood barber shop. I started going to my local barber when I was a child and my mother took me there. Eventually I was old enough to make the trip on my own and did so until Covid 19 hit our country with distancing and mask requirements. My mom never thought of giving me a haircut as she might well  have done to save money. I estimate I took a haircut approximately every six weeks and when I  married and moved to Hoggs Hollow near Yonge St and the 401, my favorite shop was Corallo barber shop at 3195 Yonge St. That is until a barber shop opened up next door to Pancers delicatessen and it was more convenient to have my hair cut there.  I love Pancer`s corn beef sandwiches. I want to be totally honest. The hair cut was cheaper on Bathurst  St and it appeared to me that it was done as well. I am sure that all my readers know that to be a barber requires training and as well a high school diploma. You have to attend courses run run by a private school but under the supervision of the Ontario government. The course is one year long and after you graduate you have to serve as an apprentice in a licensed shop for a year before you are allowed to open a shop on your own. I may as well come right to the point of this entry in my blog. Because of the masking and distancing my wife does my hair cut and to be completely honest we intend never to go back to the barber. The utensils needed are as modest as possible. A comb, a scissors and if you want to be a real professional a barber shop trimmer which is about $35.00 at Canadian Tire. It will be a long time that married men go back to a barber after the pandemic we have just lived through, if their wives took on the job. If you have a wife or girl-friend cutting your hair please let me know.

Short Bio: I was born in Toronto in 1931 to a wonderful mother who divorced shortly before my birth. I owe a great deal of my success to her. I am Jewish but not at all religious, yet my culture plays an important part of my personality. I attended Harbord Collegiate and U. of T. Faculty of Pharmacy. A unique mail-order pharmacy was the first of my endeavours in the profession, followed by many stores throughout Ontario. I have a loving wife, 3 children and grand-children and I am now retired from pharmacy. But what do I write about? Everything! My topics are funny, serious, whimsical, timely, outrageous, inspiring, and inventive. I promise that if you take the time to read any one of these topics – you will not be sorry.
