DEMOCRACY DISADVANTAGED AGAINST TERRORISM

Fighting terrorism with democratic principles will not lead to quick wins.Don`t get me wrong, I do not want the western world to fight terrorism by giving up our sacred principles and civil rights, but I want to show how at this point in our history, with ISIS and Al Queda declaring war on our democracies, being the ethical and upright nations we are, does not impress our opponents. They take advantage of us to attract followers from our own country who, rightly or wrongly, have not been as successful financially or socially with our system of democratic capitalism.  And these citizens  can come back legally, with what they have learned in terrorism and turn their new skills in fighting against  our populations. The western world, primarily the U.S. has been involved in the middle east for many years and there is no doubt, there was a great deal of self-interest at play and the oil industry played a major part. Without going into the details of western actions and I believe many actions taken by the west led to the so-called Arab Spring, when it failed the Arab nations eventually turned the whole area into  an unstable section of the world, which led to the formation of religious factions in the Muslim world fighting one another and other Muslim nations near-by looking to increase their power in the area, and I refer to Turkey and Iran. It is so easy to fight a war against a recognizable enemy, like Germany in the first and second world war, as it is not necessary, and not even expected to follow rules. In the end it is “Kill or be killed”. When hundreds of thousands of Muslim refugees flood the borders of Europe , and our society as it is expected of them are welcoming, what to do about the relatively small numbers of them, with relatives who have arrived before, turn against our open society by committing horrendous acts, and all our protected by the civil rights we so proudly proclaim.

Short Bio: I was born in Toronto in 1931 to a wonderful mother who divorced shortly before my birth. I owe a great deal of my success to her. I am Jewish but not at all religious, yet my culture plays an important part of my personality. I attended Harbord Collegiate and U. of T. Faculty of Pharmacy. A unique mail-order pharmacy was the first of my endeavours in the profession, followed by many stores throughout Ontario. I have a loving wife, 3 children and grand-children and I am now retired from pharmacy. But what do I write about? Everything! My topics are funny, serious, whimsical, timely, outrageous, inspiring, and inventive. I promise that if you take the time to read any one of these topics – you will not be sorry.

  • “A lot of of whatever you point out is astonishingly accurate and that makes me ponder the reason why I hadn’t looked at this in this light before. This particular piece really did turn the light on for me as far as this particular subject goes. But there is actually one particular point I am not really too comfortable with so while I attempt to reconcile that with the actual main idea of the point, let me see what the rest of your visitors have to say.Very well done.”
