The Players and their Prejudices in the Health Care Drama

The players in the health care system are the politicians, the public, the health care professions, and the companies that provide the ancillary services that allow the system to operate.

The Politicians
The politicians are interested first and foremost in getting re-elected They start every project with the best of intentions but after they have consulted all the players, and seen that changes will cause a lot of dissensions , will take time, and they probably will not be in office when the new system works well, they back off and do as little as they can get away with.

The Public
The public wants to get the best health care for themselves, get it free, abuse it if necessary for their own benefit, and pay as little in taxes as they can.

The Health Care Professions
The main interests of the professions are, to protect the privileges accorded them by law (protect their turf) and to make sure the fees they receive are never lowered.

The Health Care Companies
The health care companies can be divided into 2 divisions . For profit such as the research based drug companies, private laboratories and non-profit companies such as the public hospitals.

The system in Canada is working, well but at this point in our history must be changed, in order to account for the growth in our demographics of Seniors who will DEMAND as good service as they have received in the past and DAMN the cost. The professions are well trained, the ancillary companies do their jobs well but changes MUST be made to give as good health care as in the past, but not to spend as much money in the process.
