Marriage
The institution of marriage is constantly changing and has been radically affected by the enhanced freedom of women throughout the western world.The complete dominance of men ,originating in their physical strength, has been modified to some extent, whereas in the past the wife was completely subsurvient, today there is greater equality between the sexes. Divorce was uncommon but today represents 50% of marriages.If I had to accord two specific reasons why divorce has been increasing, I would point the finger on the ability of women to earn a relatively good living on their own. Marital laws are changing , to the advantage of the wife,but that is the topic for another blog.Women are now involved in all professions that used to be exclusive to men.In the past, it was literally impossible to leave your husband, no matter how unhappy the marriage.The divorced wife could not make a living by herself.
A stable marriage is due to a compromise of the ingredients that make a marriage work.The staples consist of financial stability, compatibility of personality and sexual satisfaction.We have seen how changes financially have encouraged women to seek divorce, but a new factor, in sexual relationships may have the same affect. What can change in the sexual relationship between a man and his wife?
To answer that question I have come to some conclusions that have never been verified by a controlled survey, at least not to my knowledge. I believe that men are more interested in sex than women and can be easily induced into short term relationships. Men want sex more often and in different ways. Recently an erotic novel titled “Fifty Shades of Grey” has sold more than 31 million copies world-wide and features many scenes involving bondage, discipline, sadism and masochism. For men variety in sex adds to their excitement. Visual, real-life depictions of all the varieties possible are now easily available on the internet as well as pornographic movies.
When a happily married man, after a hidden diet of internet sex, tries to induce his wife into the world of “kinky sex” she has three alternatives…..comply, leave or argue and some women are just not interested and would rather live alone. But it will not happen all at once.
