Accessible Parking Permits

People who are not disabled think very little about finding a parking spot. One just drives around until a car leaves and a place opens up.However disabled people think even less.If they have seen a physician, chiropractor or any recognized health practisioner and are certified as disabled “Voila” they literally can park anywhere within reason, in areas that are off limits to regular drivers and they are virtually ignored by the city officials given the job of making sure everybody pays the going rate in the meter. A permit from Service Ontario placed on the dashboard makes this all possible So far, all well and good, but when the so-called disabled person hops out of the car at a speed just short of a 100 yard dash, one begins to wonder. Of course I am exaggerating a little ,but the person with the permit for free parking should be disabled. The permit on the window has an expiry date but I believe it can be renewed from the physician or other professional with no problem. In some instances the so called disabled person is using the permit issued to a disabled parent. This is illegal. Why should the health professional care?.Who polices this nebulous system.? Who makes sure the person with the permit is still disabled? The police in the municipality, that`s who, but if you think they can see the permit, let alone inspect it, you are in error. The system is completely flawed, the city is losing parking money and the only angry people are the drivers who keep going round and round looking for a parking spot.
