Sometimes the new contact technology hinders the inventors purpose. I speak here of the answering machines and the technology that followed. In theory the idea is that when a call is made, an e-mail sent, the recipient does not miss the message What has happened is that the recipient of the message , and rest assured the message is usually received, decides whether in fact to answer or to ignore. When the phone used to ring, before call waiting, and you answered without knowing the identity of the caller, you were committed. You could lie of course but your voice, recognizable, came through loud and clear. The power of accepting or rejecting a call is now with the person called and he or she better want to hear from you or you are out of luck. The same situation exists with e-mail messages. Who is going to prove the e-mail was or was not delivered? God only knows and God is not answering.

This addition was entered Dec 9 2015 and I felt a need to add it. I phoned the Ontario College of Pharmacists in the middle of the morning to try and get the name of one of the employees I had been in contact with. I phoned the College main number and  three extensions, and each time I got an answering machine. You hardly ever get a person answering anywhere.

Name of author

Name: Murray Rubin

Short Bio: I was born in Toronto in 1931 to a wonderful mother who divorced shortly before my birth. I owe a great deal of my success to her. I am Jewish but not at all religious, yet my culture plays an important part of my personality. I attended Harbord Collegiate and U. of T. Faculty of Pharmacy. A unique mail-order pharmacy was the first of my endeavours in the profession, followed by many stores throughout Ontario. I have a loving wife, 3 children and grand-children and I am now retired from pharmacy. But what do I write about? Everything! My topics are funny, serious, whimsical, timely, outrageous, inspiring, and inventive. I promise that if you take the time to read any one of these topics – you will not be sorry.
