DEMOCRACY- FLAWED BUT ESSENTIAL
There is no perfect political system for a very simple reason. There are no perfect human beings and the best, most carefully planned system can be corrupted by individuals for selfish purposes. In a democracy there is also another factor in play for electing leaders. The smartest and best leaders are not necessarily elected, as humans choose what is best for themselves personally, which may not be best for the country. As well, what is best is not readily apparent except to very dedicated altruistic voters.
It is even possible that authoritarian leaders do more for their country, irrespective of how they are chosen. But aside from the fact that the democratic system demands a vote to allow change, there is another reason for the superiority of democracy. The operative word is pay-back or revenge. Authoritarian leaders as well as democratic ones have their followers and pet projects. They reward as needed to maintain power, but in a democracy the worst that will happen to the deposed leader and his followers is a loss of jobs or influence, and the rule of law is paramount, not necessarily so in a dictatorship.
A dictator is always worried about to-morrow . He, and it usually a man, has mistreated a portion of the citizens of the country who if they are able to remove him from power will mete out the same treatment that was handed out to them. But not only to him. All his followers who have benefitted to such an extent can lose their lives, their jobs and most certainly their influence.
A good government depends on good times, good luck and the charisma and intelligence of honest and dedicated people.
Obama got elected by promising to avoid American involvement in wars in the middle east. He kept his promise but this was essentially the reason for the displacement of a million Syrians and the deaths of 1/4 million. If the necessity to be re-elected was not so important should he have gone against his promise and taken action there, but how could he have been sure what happened would happen before it happened. It is easy to be smart after the fact.
The Title is “Democracy Flawed But Essential” HOW TRUE!

These are not all his promises. When a man like that can get elected it shows how democracy is flawed.

Short Bio: I was born in Toronto in 1931 to a wonderful mother who divorced shortly before my birth. I owe a great deal of my success to her. I am Jewish but not at all religious, yet my culture plays an important part of my personality. I attended Harbord Collegiate and U. of T. Faculty of Pharmacy. A unique mail-order pharmacy was the first of my endeavours in the profession, followed by many stores throughout Ontario. I have a loving wife, 3 children and grand-children and I am now retired from pharmacy. But what do I write about? Everything! My topics are funny, serious, whimsical, timely, outrageous, inspiring, and inventive. I promise that if you take the time to read any one of these topics – you will not be sorry.
Democracy is flawed. On paper, again ON PAPER, the only system of government that works, in theory, is Communism. But when that theory is applied we know what happens. The USA is not a Democracy although that’s what we’ve been told. It’s in fact, a Republic with aspects of Democracy and Capitalism; it’s a hybrid. Many things he wants to do cannot be done because of Congress, Senate, and Supreme Court. Humans are unpredictable. The “I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine” mentality needs to get out of politics. The USA can’t boast being a superpower with such cowardly acts occuring.
That is human nature and will never change
