AUTOCRATIC CAPITALISM VS DEMOCRATIC CAPITALISM

I have written a few pieces on capitalism and how superior it is to Socialism and  Communism. The  reason being, of course, that it takes into account the nature of man. But how does autocratic capitalism stand up against democratic capitalism. We are very shortly going to find out.

There is no end to the demands of the public in a democratic society. For starters, they demand better schools, better hospitals, more and superior roads, affordable daycare  and a clean environment. You get the picture. But they want it all without substantially raising taxes. Democratic elections turn into a popularity contest and it does not necessarily produce the most qualified people into the winners .

Winston Churchill said it best for his time. “Democracy is the worst system except for all the others” But does too much democratic action interfere with the success of the system.. There are too many vested interests in Democratic capitalism such as teachers, doctors, business owner taxpayers and others too numerous to mention. Everybody wants to defend their own interests  and the majority of the population suffers .Too many interferers in the capitalistic system can ruin its efficiency. Lee Kuan Yew a capitalist, in to some extent an authoritarian country , Singapore, makes a point. In Singapore which was  an ex British colony , there are better schools and hospitals and living standards than its former British overlord.  In China there is a negative, as usual, to Autocratic capitalism  The Chinese built the Three Gorges Dam which increased the amount of electricity produced to five times that of Niagara.  However they submerged under water 1,503 cities, towns and villages. Good for business but not for the people involved. The West  may be overloading the state with obligations  that cannot be met. Unreformed, the modern welfare state may ruin itself. We should possibly ask less of the state and take  “major decisions”  out of the hands of politician, who do what it takes to raise money to be re-elected,  not what is good for the country, and give it to independent commissions.

We already do monetary policy this way, why not fiscal policy?
