HUMANS ARE NOT HUMANE TO ANIMALS

Have you heard the expression” you are acting like an animal”. It should be you are acting like a person. Animals  have a life-cycle that must not be ignored in our relationship with them.

A definition of “human “from the Oxford dictionary, is that it is a characteristic of people as opposed to God, animals or machines and that it shows the better qualities of humankind. Forgetting about God whose feelings we cannot relate to, and machines who have no feelings at all, humans show no compassion in their  treatment of animals. They treat living objects with absolutely no respect. Animals are living objects that feel  all or most of the experiences of people. This entry covers animals who essentially form a very important part of the food cycle of people. It is the agricultural industry that , in my opinion is at fault, but the ultimate blame lies with the government at provincial or federal level

It is all about making money and the advent of industrial  factory farms that are essentially big business, are the cause of the present situation that results in extreme cruelty to farm animals. In writing this piece I saw some of the videos taken in secret at these farms and I must tell you that the pictures were so cruel that I was forced to look away. Most of our meat does not come from the picturesque family farm of 100 years ago with the friendly farmer raising 5 -10 cows and 50 chickens, pigs and an assortment of other animals

What to do? The treatment of animals and birds and fish in these economic entities must be controlled by government law. It should be self-evident that animals don`t have a vote and cannot on their own have protest groups. The mother of a group of piglets treated cruelly has no one to complain to. The only factor is to produce the food at as cheap a price as possible. If laws are passed outlining in detail how animals must be treated, the prices will definitely go up but it is a small price to pay for treating other alive beings in a humane manner. Europe is far ahead of North America in passing these laws. Human society is sick if it continues on as we have in the past.
