JEWS ARE SUCCESSFUL BUT AFRAID TO ADMIT IT
This piece is partly taken from an article written by Avi Benlolo the president of Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre in Canada and received by me Oct 3, just before Yom Kippur
“Anti-Semitism has made us reluctant to validate our contributions to the world for fear of inspiring hate and resentment”
But we deserve to be proud of our Nobel laureates; our business achievements worldwide and philanthropic giving; our medical and scientific innovation, and our community organizations which strengthen our identity and help us to contribute to the societies and countries in which we live. It is our overarching focus and commitment to education that has given us the capacity as a people to rise above hardship and discrimination , and to concentrate on building a better future for all people.
Israel`s Iron Dome is a wonderful metaphor, an example of the characteristics the define the Jewish spirit. It is a `never again` symbol of self-preservation from annihilation; It is a manifestation of Israeli technological and scientific innovation, and its very realization is a factor of our shared responsibility.
The Iron Dome represents the Jewish will to live and persevere in a world that is growing ever more hostile to Israel and the Jewish people. And while this is still the best time to be Jewish and live harmoniously amoung diverse citizens of the free world, the world feels like it is closing in once again as hatred and intolerance proliferate. But this time, our capacity for self-protection- militarily ,politically, financially and socially, is greater than ever before”
And now I will add a few words of my own coming from a 83 year old Canadian who has lived in the best of countries, Canada,and who identifies as a Canadian Jew.
Anti-Semitism is a mental illness primarily of western society, which is derived from the early competition of Christianity to succeed Judaism as the sole religion believing in a single god. There is no reason or logic for anti-Semitism. There are 15 million Jews worldwide, a paltry number. The Jews do not control the press, they do not control the foreign affairs of the U.S. government. They are not sly, devious or as individuals,different from all other peoples. The competition is over. Christianity is world-wide and accepted and the Jews just want to be a small part of the earth`s landscape. Jews want to exist as a religion and as a nation as all other nations, and hopefully Israel will do whatever they can in their power to make it happen. Will the world let it happen.
“validate our contributions”…….wow, as a group of self obsessed people, believing in a non-existant ” walk in the desert ” (a fact born out of historical and anthropological fact), who also practice new born child physical mutilation because a supernatural “being” says it’s OK even that is a stretch.
