HISTORY SHOULD NEVER BE CHANGED

I read an article by Professor Jeffrey Denis at McMaster university and he was angry that John A McDonald was revered as a Canadian hero. In actual fact he was castigated primarily for his attitude towards aboriginals, the first inhabitants of our country. He unified Canada through land dispossession , cultural genocide, using starvation to clear Western lands for the railroad and instituting the residential schools which was essentially an instrument for killing the cultures of the aboriginals. What he did in his day would not be tolerated by the standards of present society but it was the attitudes of white Canadians at the time and for that matter white people throughout the world. Standards of the past have to be recognized as such, standards of the past and history should  not be  changed.. He was  a  Father of Confederation and a drunk and would have no chance at public office in present day Canada .

An interesting fact that also remains in the history books is George Washington, the first president of the U.S. was a slave-holder .

There is an attempt by the aboriginals of North America to change the names of two baseball teams, and of course I am referring to the Cleveland Indians and the Boston Braves. The chances of that happening are very slight but should they be changed. There is nothing derogatory with Indians and braves, and as a matter of fact they seem to be rather complimentary especially the term braves. Because so much recognition and money is involved for the owners of these two teams and because they do not defame aboriginals I would imagine no changes will be made.
